The film dominated the 15th edition of the Ghana Movie Awards, held on Sunday at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra.

ACCRA, Ghana (Running Africa) — Ghanaian film SUKURA emerged as the biggest winner at the 15th Ghana Movie Awards, securing multiple honors, including the coveted Best Picture award, during a star-studded ceremony held at the Accra Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City.

The annual event, hosted under the theme “Rewarding African Excellence,” brought together leading filmmakers, actors, producers and industry stakeholders to celebrate achievements in Ghana’s growing film industry.

The red carpet featured a vibrant display of contemporary fashion blended with traditional Ghanaian cultural styles, reflecting the creativity and diversity that continue to shape African cinema.

SUKURA Leads Ghana Movie Awards 2026 Winners

SUKURA dominated the awards night, earning recognition across both major and technical categories. In addition to winning Best Picture, producer Janet Ayesu was named Discovery of the Year for her work on the film.

The production also picked up awards for cinematography and production design, cementing its status as the standout film of the evening and one of the most celebrated Ghanaian movies of the year.

Kwadwo Nkansah and Amanda Jissih Take Top Acting Honors

Actor Kwadwo Nkansah won Best Actor for his performance in Captain Ibrahim Traoré, while Amanda Jissih claimed the Best Actress award for her role in Kone.

Both performances were among the most talked-about of the year and highlighted the strength of storytelling emerging from Ghana’s film industry.

Virgin of the Throne Shines in Technical Categories

Another major winner on the night was Virgin of the Throne, which swept several technical awards, including Best Original Score, Sound Mixing and Editing, and directing honors.
