Gauteng, South Africa (Running Africa) — South African police are investigating the death of an 11th woman found in Ekurhuleni since July, as authorities examine whether any of the recent cases are connected.

The latest victim was discovered in an open field near a railway line in Springs on Sunday after a security patrol spotted the body and alerted police.

Gauteng police deployed a multidisciplinary team to the scene, including detectives, forensic specialists, and investigative psychologists.

The woman has not been publicly identified, while forensic examinations are expected to determine her cause of death.

Woman Found Dead at Thembisa Cemetery

The Springs discovery came a day after police recovered the body of Ntombifuthu Nxumalo at Mooifontein Cemetery in Thembisa.

Police said Nxumalo had suffered severe head injuries. A suspect has been arrested in connection with her death.

Four people are now in custody in connection with killings among the recent cases under investigation.

Police Investigating Possible Links Between Ekurhuleni Cases

Gauteng police are examining similarities between the deaths but have cautioned against concluding that all 11 cases are connected.

Gauteng police chief Tommy Mthombeni said investigators had identified similarities in some cases, but there was no conclusive evidence that the same person or group was responsible for the killings.

The distinction remains important as investigators examine each death individually while looking for potential connections.

Authorities have urged the public to avoid circulating unverified allegations about possible perpetrators while investigations continue.
