The Oscar winner takes on a major role alongside Zendaya, Tom Holland, Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway in one of Hollywood’s most anticipated films.

Kenyan Academy Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o is set to make another major Hollywood appearance after joining the cast of Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated epic, The Odyssey, one of the biggest film productions of 2026.
Based on Homer’s timeless Greek epic, the film boasts one of the most star-studded ensembles assembled in recent years. Matt Damon leads the cast as Odysseus, while Tom Holland stars as his son, Telemachus. Anne Hathaway takes on the role of Penelope, with Zendaya portraying the goddess Athena.
Nyong’o has been cast in the dual roles of Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra, further showcasing her versatility as one of Africa’s most accomplished actresses. The production also features Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Samantha Morton, and Benny Safdie.

Directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey marks the acclaimed director’s first adaptation of Greek mythology following the global success of Oppenheimer. The epic was filmed using cutting-edge IMAX technology across multiple international locations, including Morocco, Sicily, and the United Kingdom.
With a reported production budget of approximately $250 million, the film is the most expensive project of Nolan’s career and is expected to be one of the biggest cinematic releases of the year.
For Nyong’o, the role represents another milestone in an already distinguished international career. Since winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, she has become one of Africa’s most celebrated performers, earning global recognition through blockbuster productions such as Black Panther, Us, A Quiet Place: Day One, and The Wild Robot.
Her continued presence in high-profile international productions reinforces the growing influence of African talent in the global film industry and cements her status as one of the continent’s most successful cultural ambassadors.
The Odyssey is scheduled for worldwide theatrical release on July 17, 2026, with audiences eagerly awaiting Nolan’s ambitious reimagining of one of history’s greatest literary works.
