Los Angeles, United States (Running Africa) — Nigerian superstar Tems is set to perform at the 2026 BET Awards, further cementing Africa’s growing influence on the global music scene and highlighting the continent’s strong presence at one of entertainment’s biggest annual events.
The Grammy Award-winning singer will take the stage at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on June 28, joining a star-studded lineup that includes Cardi B, Doechii, Kehlani, French Montana, Jill Scott, Queen Latifah, and Common. Comedian Druski will host the ceremony, becoming the youngest host in BET Awards history.
Tems heads into the awards ceremony with three nominations, including Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, the BET Her Award for First, and the Viewers’ Choice Award for Raindance, her acclaimed collaboration with British rapper Dave.
African talent is once again prominently represented across this year’s nominations. Nigerian stars Wizkid and Asake earned a nomination in the Best Group category for their collaborative project REAL Vol. 1. Fellow Nigerian global star Burna Boy received a Best Collaboration nomination for WGFT, his feature on a track by American rapper Gunna.

South African sensation Tyla also secured multiple nominations, including Video of the Year and Viewers’ Choice Award recognition for her hit single Chanel, continuing her rapid rise as one of Africa’s most successful global music exports.
Beyond the competitive categories, the 2026 BET Awards will honor three influential figures whose contributions have shaped the music industry. Ms. Lauryn Hill, Teyana Taylor, and music executive Sylvia Rhone will receive BET Icon Awards in recognition of their lasting impact on music and culture.
With African artists continuing to secure major nominations, headline performances, and global recognition, this year’s BET Awards underscore the growing influence of African music on the international stage.
