Eastern Region, Ghana (Running Africa) — YouTube creator Jimmy Donaldson, better known as MrBeast, has unveiled a nearly $10 million community development in Ghana designed to support families affected by child labor in cocoa-growing areas.

The development, named Abna Dakwa Village, was built on previously undeveloped land in Ghana’s Eastern Region following about a year of planning and eight months of construction.

The community includes a school with capacity for more than 300 children, 10 homes for teachers, a medical clinic, a marketplace, clean-water infrastructure, solar power, and agricultural facilities.

Abna Dakwa Village Targets Education and Child Labor

A major focus of the project is keeping children in school in communities where economic pressures can contribute to child labor.

Students attending the new village school are expected to receive free meals for 5 years, reducing financial pressure on families and supporting school attendance.

The project forms part of the 1 Billion Acts of Kindness campaign launched by the 1 Billion Followers Summit in partnership with the Varkey Foundation, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, and MrBeast.

Ten content creators traveled to Ghana between February and June to participate in construction alongside local residents.

School Meals Linked to Ghana Cocoa Farmers

Beyond Abna Dakwa Village, Beast Philanthropy and the Rockefeller Foundation are working with local organizations to expand the school-meal program and regenerative agriculture in cocoa-producing communities across the Eastern Region.

The Rockefeller Foundation said the wider initiative will initially provide meals to children at 10 schools across nine communities.

The program aims to connect school feeding with locally produced food, creating demand for agricultural products while supporting farmers and students.

MrBeast Expands Philanthropy Work in Ghana

MrBeast has previously used Beast Philanthropy projects in Ghana to draw attention to child labor in the cocoa industry.

The Abna Dakwa development expands that work beyond short-term assistance by combining education, healthcare, clean water, housing and agriculture in one community.

The project also reflects broader efforts to address economic conditions that can push children in cocoa-growing communities out of classrooms and into work.
