Davido Calls on Donald Trump to Monitor Osun Governorship Election

Osun State, Nigeria (Running Africa) — Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has called on US President Donald Trump and the international community to closely monitor the upcoming Osun State governorship election, warning that rising political tensions could threaten the credibility and peaceful conduct of the vote.

In a statement titled “A Call for Attention to President Donald Trump,” Davido urged international attention on the electoral process amid concerns over possible violence, voter intimidation, and interference.

The Grammy-nominated singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, is campaigning for his uncle, incumbent Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election as the Accord Party candidate.

Davido Calls for Free and Fair Osun Election

Davido said his appeal was driven by concerns about maintaining peace and protecting the right of Osun residents to vote without intimidation.

The singer called on authorities to ensure the election remains transparent and that voters can participate freely regardless of their political affiliation.

“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation,” Davido said, calling for peace, transparency and a free and fair election.

His statement brings one of Africa’s most recognizable entertainment figures directly into the political debate surrounding the Osun governorship race.

Davido Appeals to Trump After Livestream Comments

The formal appeal follows comments Davido made during a livestream with Nigerian content creator Carter Efe, where the singer suggested he would seek Trump’s attention if he believed the election had been manipulated.

Davido has now taken those concerns further by publicly calling for international scrutiny of the electoral process.

His appeal does not give the US government or other international actors a formal role in administering the election, which remains under the authority of Nigeria’s electoral institutions. However, international observers have historically monitored elections in Nigeria and other democracies to assess issues including transparency, voter access, and electoral violence.

Davido Campaigns for Uncle Ademola Adeleke

Davido has long been a vocal supporter of his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, and has previously participated in political campaigns on his behalf.

Adeleke is seeking another term as governor of Osun State, with Davido once again using his enormous public profile to rally attention around the campaign.

The singer’s involvement gives the contest added national and international visibility, particularly among younger Nigerians and Davido’s global fanbase.

Osun Governorship Election Draws Growing Attention

Davido’s intervention comes amid heightened political tensions ahead of the Osun State election, with concerns about security and the integrity of the voting process increasingly entering public debate.

Nigeria has faced recurring challenges around electoral violence, voter intimidation, and disputes over results, making security and transparency central issues during major elections.

By appealing directly to Trump and the wider international community, Davido has pushed the Osun contest beyond a state-level political battle and into an unusual international spotlight.

With campaigning intensifying, attention will now turn to whether authorities can deliver the peaceful, transparent election Davido and other stakeholders are demanding — and whether his international appeal will draw greater outside scrutiny to the vote.
