The Nigerian superstar has surpassed South Africa’s Tyla to claim the all-time record with 46.84 million monthly listeners.

Lagos, Nigeria (Running Africa) — Nigerian superstar Burna Boy has set a new milestone on Spotify, becoming the most-streamed African artist by monthly listeners after reaching 46.84 million monthly listeners and surpassing South African singer Tyla, whose previous record stood at 46.58 million.
The achievement marks another landmark moment in Burna Boy’s career and underscores the growing global influence of African music. The Grammy Award-winning artist has seen a significant boost in listenership following the release of Dai Dai, his official 2026 FIFA World Cup anthem with Colombian superstar Shakira, which has quickly become his most-streamed recent release.
His collaboration with American rapper Gunna on WGFT also continues to perform strongly, remaining one of his biggest songs on the platform with more than 265 million streams.
Spotify’s monthly listeners metric measures the number of unique users who have streamed an artist over a rolling 28-day period, making it one of the clearest indicators of an artist’s current global popularity and audience reach.
Burna Boy’s latest record comes during a period of unprecedented international success for African music. Alongside artists such as Tyla, Tems, Wizkid, Rema, and Ayra Starr, he has helped propel Afrobeats and African music onto the global stage, with African artists consistently breaking streaming records, topping international charts, and headlining some of the world’s biggest festivals.
The latest Spotify milestone further cements Burna Boy’s position as one of Africa’s most influential global music ambassadors and highlights the continent’s continued rise as a powerhouse in the international music industry.
